An Bíobla Naofa 1981

Bíodh muinín agat as an Tiarna, agus ná bíodh iontaoibh agat as do thuiscint féin; Bíodh aird agat air siúd cibé cúrsa ar a mbíonn tú, agus féachfaidh sé chuige go mbeidh do chosáin réidh.

Seanfhocal 3:5-6

Is aoibhinn don té a chuireann a dhóchas sa Tiarna; an té nach gcloíonn le huaibhrigh ná le déithe bréige.

Salm 40:5

Seanfhocal 3 (An Bíobla Naofa 1981)

2 Óir bronnfaidh siadsan fad saoil ort,
blianta breise saoil agus sonas go fial.
3 Ná tréigeadh dílseacht agus cneastacht go brách thú,
ceangail faoi do bhráid iad,
agus scríobh ar chláracha do chroí iad.
4 Beidh fabhar agus dea-cháil ort dá bharrsan,
i láthair Dé agus daoine.
5 Bíodh muinín agat as an Tiarna,
agus ná bíodh iontaoibh agat as do thuiscint féin;
6 Bíodh aird agat air siúd cibé cúrsa ar a mbíonn tú,
agus féachfaidh sé chuige go mbeidh do chosáin réidh.
7 Ná bí féin a mheas go bhfuil tú eagnaí,
ach bíodh eagla an Tiarna ort, agus tabhair cúl leis an olc.
8 Beidh sin ina íocshlainte do do cholainn
agus ina fhaoiseamh do do chnámha.
9 Tabhair onóir don Tiarna le do mhaoin go léir,
agus le céadtorthaí d’fhómhair go léir.

Salm 40 (An Bíobla Naofa 1981)

2 D’fhan mé go foighneach leis an Tiarna
agus chrom sé chugam
gur éist sé le mo ghuí.
3 Tharraing sé mé as díog na díthe,
as láib an bhogaigh;
chuir sé mo chosa ina seasamh ar charraig
agus dhaingnigh mo choiscéimeanna.
4 Chuir sé amhrán nua i mo bhéal:
duan dár nDia.
Feicfidh a lán é agus beidh eagla orthu,
agus beidh a ndóchas sa Tiarna acu.
5 Is aoibhinn don té a chuireann
a dhóchas sa Tiarna;
an té nach gcloíonn le huaibhrigh
ná le déithe bréige.
6 Nach iomaí sin éacht a rinne tú,
a Thiarna is mo Dhia!
Níl aon neach inchurtha leatsa
sna comhairlí a cheap tú dúinn.
Dá mb’áil liom a n-insint nó a n-áireamh
rachadh a gcomhaireamh díom.
7 Íobairt ná ofráil níor thoil leat,
ach d’oscail tú mo chluasa.
Uileloscadh ná íobairt pheaca níor theastaigh uait;
8 ach féach, dúirt mé: “Seo ag teacht mé!
i rolla an leabhair tá sé scríofa fúm

Psalm 40:4

Seanfhocal 3 (English Standard Version)

2 for length of days and years of life
and peace they will add to you.
3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 So you will find favor and good success
in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your produce;

Salm 40 (English Standard Version)

1 I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.
4 Blessed is the man who makes
the Lord his trust,
who does not turn to the proud,
to those who go astray after a lie!
5 You have multiplied, O Lord my God,
your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us;
none can compare with you!
I will proclaim and tell of them,
yet they are more than can be told.
6 In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted,
but you have given me an open ear.
Burnt offering and sin offering
you have not required.
7 Then I said, “Behold, I have come;
in the scroll of the book it is written of me:
