An Bíobla Naofa 1981

Bígí ar bhur gcoimeád go haireach ar an uile shórt sainte, óir, fiú amháin an té a mbíonn raidhse aige, ní thugann a chuid maoine aon áirithe ar a shaol dó.

Lúcás 12:15

Is fearr an builín beag agus eagla an Tiarna ná an builín mór agus buairt dá réir.

Lúcás 12 (An Bíobla Naofa 1981)

12 óir múinfidh an Spiorad Naomh daoibh an uair sin féin na nithe nach foláir a rá.”
13 Dúirt duine as an slua leis: “A Mháistir, abair le mo dheartháir mo chion féin den oidhreacht a thabhairt dom.”

13 Gabhann gealgháire le háthas croí,
ach briseann cumha chroí an misneach.
14 Eolas is sprioc ag aigne an duine thuisceanaigh,
ach baois an bia a bhíonn i mbéal na n-amadán.
15 Is drochlá gach lá ag fear na buairte,
ach is fleá gach lá ag an gcroí suairc.
16 Is fearr an builín beag agus eagla an Tiarna
ná an builín mór agus buairt dá réir.
17 Is fearr de bhéile luibheanna agus grá leo
ná mart méith agus gráin leis.
18 Adhnann an duine lasánta achrann,
ach réitíonn an duine sochma aighneas.
19 Tá driseacha go tiubh ar chosán na leisceoirí,
ach is ród réidh cosán [na ndícheallach].

Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.

Luke 12:15

Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.

Proverbs 15:16

Lúcás 12 (English Standard Version)

12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”
13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
14 But he said to him,
“Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?”
15 And he said to them,
“Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
16 And he told them a parable, saying,
“The land of a rich man produced plentifully,

Seanfhocal 15 (English Standard Version)

13 A glad heart makes a cheerful face,
but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.
14 The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge,
but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil,
but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.
16 Better is a little with the fear of the Lord
than great treasure and trouble with it.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is
than a fattened ox and hatred with it.
18 A hot-tempered man stirs up strife,
but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.
19 The way of a sluggard is like a hedge of thorns,
but the path of the upright is a level highway.
